A few days before the filing deadline (for candidates running for City Council) I had a conversation with Evelyn Mitchell. Evelyn is my Council colleague, and she lives in District 4, as I do. She informed me that she would not be seeking a third term on Council. Since no other candidate has emerged, I am now guaranteed a second term on Council.

Serving with Evelyn has been a pleasure and an honor. I respect her a great deal. She has served with integrity, and should be proud of her many contributions. It's clear that this decision was a very difficult one for her. Serving a third term can carry an extra burden, and she said that she has family concerns that have impacted her decision. Of course, I respect the importance of weighing one's personal obligations. She gave a great deal of thought to her decision, and fully understands the implications of there being just a single candidate.

I feel I have a responsibility to earn each vote I receive -regardless of the contest, or lack thereof. So, I will continue to present my ideals, qualifications, and ambitions for the next year to District 4 voters. Most importantly, I will continue to engage my neighbors, door to door, in order to welcome their thoughts, their feedback, and their invaluable input.

To my loyal supporters: I want to say that you have every reason to believe that your enthusiasm and support for this campaign set the stage for this outcome. Together, we came out strong and confident. Our success reflects the commitment we have to the ideals we hold, and the desire to faithfully improve the lives of the residents of Healdsburg, both within and without District 4.

In Healdsburg, we all knew the move to district elections would be unpredictable. In one district (District 2), we have three very strong candidates. And in District 4 (my district), we have only one. Finding willing, capable candidates within a small geographic area is a new challenge for our community, especially when there are incumbents involved. I will remain supportive of those who wish to serve -regardless of their politics. I urge everyone to share in the work of identifying and encouraging Healdsburg's future leaders.

I am so looking forward to finishing the work of this campaign, straight through to November 3rd and into my second term. I remain committed to serving the residents of Healdsburg -collaboratively, thoughtfully, and with integrity.
