Healdsburg Mayor Chris Herrod Launches Re-Election Campaign for District 4 City Council Seat

HEALDSBURG, Calif. — Healdsburg Mayor Chris Herrod has officially launched his campaign for re-election to the Healdsburg City Council and is the first District 4 candidate to file nomination papers for the Nov. 3 election.

Herrod first announced his candidacy in early April through social media and simultaneously launched his campaign website, www.chrisforhealdsburg.com.

The campaign formally kicked off with a community event on July 22 at Elephant in the Room, where attendees enjoyed a performance by Healdsburg native Steve Pile and his trio at no charge. The event also featured remarks from fellow local progressive candidates, including Sonoma County supervisor candidates Melanie Bagby and Joanna Paun, as well as Petaluma City Council candidate Eric Vasquez.

During the event, Herrod outlined priorities for a second term, including expanding affordable housing, supporting Healdsburg's homeless services through L&M Village, strengthening the city's long-term water resilience, and continuing implementation of Healdsburg's Climate Action Plan. He also pledged continued efforts to elevate the voices of Latino residents and to support and protect the city's immigrant community.

Herrod pointed to accomplishments during his time on the City Council, including progress on street improvement projects, reductions in crime and homelessness, and the adoption of balanced city budgets.

"I am excited by the campaign's strong start, especially considering the community's unfamiliarity with the district election process," Herrod said. "Serving on the City Council has been tremendously fulfilling, and I am eager to continue the progress we've made during my first term. My experience has deepened, my conviction has strengthened, and my connections throughout the community continue to grow, providing invaluable perspectives that help shape my work."

A lifelong Healdsburg resident, Herrod attended local schools and has long been active in civic life, maintaining a consistent presence at community events and local celebrations. He and his wife, Briana, have two sons who recently graduated from Healdsburg High School. Briana works within the Sonoma County Library system.

Outside public service, Herrod has spent nearly 30 years in small-business sales management within the stringed instrument industry. He has emphasized support for local businesses, recently convening an economic forum that brought together business leaders to discuss challenges facing the wine industry and the local economy.

Under Healdsburg's system of government, the mayor is selected annually from among the sitting City Council members. This election is therefore for the District 4 City Council seat rather than the office of mayor.

The November election will be Healdsburg's first conducted under district-based voting. District 4 generally includes neighborhoods between Powell Avenue and Terrace Boulevard. Residents can verify their district using the City of Healdsburg's online district lookup tool.

District 2, which currently has no incumbent councilmember residing within its boundaries, has also attracted multiple candidates. As of this release, Scott Pratt, Mathew Lopez, and Alex Wood have filed to run for that seat. District 2 generally includes neighborhoods between Powell Avenue and Piper Street.
